Memorial Day Weekend – Revolutionary War Patriots

I still have a few bios to put together that finish information on my 3X Great Grandparents, but as I just received news this week that I had four more Revolutionary War Patriots approved for a current total of 5 (with more in the works) this seemed like a good time to list some of those now.

In no particular order, the first one is John Arnold. If you are searching the Daughters of the American Revolution database he is ancestor #A003268. John is my 7X Great Grandfather and is in the lineage of my Great Grandmother Gladys Hagerdon Anderson. John lived in Mansfield, Windham County, CT and at roughly 49 years of age was a participant in the Lexington Alarm, which has him listed as a private for 2 days, and took the oath of fidelity in 1783. It doesn’t look like John is related to the infamous Benedict Arnold – at least as far as I can tell!

David Cady, John Arnold’s father in law, is ancestor #A018068. He would then be my 8X Great Grandfather. David lived in Killingly, Windham County, CT and was born in 1703. He would have been roughly 72 years old when the war broke out, and his service is listed as a member of committee – I’m not sure of any specifics at this point. It seems that he had served in the military prior to the Revolutionary War as another researcher lists this: From the General Register of the Society of Colonial Wars: Captain David Cady 1703 – Captain of the first Company of Train Band of Killingly 1747. I’m not 100% certain yet exactly what that means, but I’m sure one day I’ll find the answer.

Nathaniel Hall, Sr is my third patriot from Connecticut. He is ancestor #A049376. Nathaniel is also through my Great Grandmother Gladys and would be my 7X Great Grandfather. The information that I have from the DAR website states that Nathaniel was born in 1724 and was also living in Mansfield, Windham County, CT. He was part of the Connecticut Line and rose to the rank of Captain. Nathaniel would have been fighting in the war at roughly 51 years of age.

Abraham Livermore was living in Pelham, Hampshire County, Massachusetts when the war broke out. Abraham is my 6X Great Grandfather and is also through Great Grandma Gladys. Abraham was born in 1749 and would have been about 26 when the war broke out. Abraham is ancestor #A070751. His record states that he was under Captain Elijah Dwight and served as a surveyor, selectman and constable, so his service is listed both as private and as civil service.

Ephriam Wood is the final approved patriot I have at this point in time and is my 7X Great Grandfather. He was a private, and his service record states that he served under Captain Nathaniel Wood, Colonel Simon Cary and then has the year 1776. Ephriam is ancestor #A127816 in the DAR Database. Ephriam was born in 1744 and would have been about 31 years old when the war broke out. Ephriam was living in Rochester, Plymouth County, MA. This fits perfectly with one other fact about Ephriam – he is a direct ancestor of John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley who are Mayflower passengers. Ephriam is also in the lineage of Great Grandma Gladys. She had quite a distinquished lineage!
