I was working on putting together my documentation for my great grandmother Marjorie’s parents and in doing newspaper research found these clippings. It was nice to have a short project in the middle of the longer one, so I decided to post it now.
Some of you will remember the story from Marjorie’s book of memories regarding the cutest baby contest and the picture where her sister Ruby is wearing the watch. The story with the picture is that Marjorie was about to cry in this photo because Ruby had switched the beads for the watch. Marjorie was born in 1903 and the contest was at the end of 1908 so Marjorie would have been about 5. Notes on the back of the picture from Marjorie say that she was 4 years old, so that’s pretty close. Marjorie was third in the contest, and the first three children received watches. For anyone with Cedar County connections Edna May Wilson was 1st, Marie Asmussen was 2nd and Marjorie was 3rd.
