For a long time this particular story has made me giggle and it came to mind again this week.
My great grandmother Gladys Hagerdon’s branch of the tree ties into the Vawter family. Gladys’s parents were Luther Hagerdon and Lena Livermore, Lena’s parents were James Hagerdon and Louisiana Vawter.
Louisiana’s father Edmund is a civil war vet that I posted about earlier. His branch of the tree has been a bit elusive to find information on and until recently we hadn’t been able to prove his parents with certainty. His civil war pension has his brother’s testimony that they are brothers, and there is solid proof tying brother William to the parents of Aaron Vawter and Winifred (maiden name still unknown).
There’s where the fun comes in. Aaron’s father is Benjamin. Benjamin is a known Revolutionary War Patriot. We have records that Benjamin received bounty land in Kentucky for his service and then sent his sons Moses and Aaron out to settle the new ground. Every time I hear that I wonder if it took Moses and Aaron 40 years of wandering to reach the promised land? Giggle….
