One of the genealogy blogs that I follow suggested that for presidents day a fun activity would be sharing which, if any, US Presidents you are related to.
As of right now, I know of three. In proving my relationship to John Howland who sailed on the Mayflower I found that he had a very large family and that many people are related to John Howland and his wife Elizabeth Tilley. The Howland connection is through my Great-Grandmother Gladys Hagerdon Anderson.
Through this connection I am related to the following US Presidents and candidates. There are a number of other people that most people will recognize on the list of Howland “cousins”.
- Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) – 32nd US President
- George Herbert Walker Bush – 41st US President
- George W Bush – 43rd US President
- Sarah Palin – Republican VP Nominee
I wouldn’t be surprised if there are others in the list of relatives, but I just haven’t found them yet.
