I had looked at joining the Huguenot society a while back on the Bayne family line (Great Grandma Marjorie Bayne Munter’s family) and was missing a degree of proof for one of the generations, so I had put it on hold for a bit.
I recently connected with a cousin who has joined the society on a related, but slightly different line. I’m now working to submit my application that again goes through Great Grandma Marjorie’s line, and through the wife of Henry Bayne, Elizabeth Gustin. Henry and Elizabeth would be Grandma Marjorie’s grandparents and my third great grandparents.
Elizabeth’s line traces to Augustine Jean / John Augustine who was born in 1647 at Le Tocq, Isle of Jersey. The Isle of Jersey is just off of the north side of France in the English Channel.
What is unique about the Huguenot’s? These are a group of people who are French Protestants when it was not popular to be a protestant.
The qualification from the Huguenot Society website states in part: “without regard to ethnic origin or adherence to any sect of Protestantism, who, subsequent to December 10, 1520, and prior to the promulgation of the Edict of Toleration on November 28, 1787, immigrated to North America or some other country,”
It’s always so nice to connect with other cousins who are researching the same family lines and see what all they have been able to uncover that you haven’t yet. Hopefully I can also contribute to some of their knowledge as well.
