If you have been following this blog for a while you may know that I have been working to get a copy of a big family tree (almost 4 ft X 4 ft) that traces the family back several generations in Germany. Partially to see how it matches the research we have already done and to see if we can find additional ancestors and partially to see if we could find how our family tree connects to Peter Paul and Wilhelm Mauser the inventors of the Mauser Rifle.
A copy of the tree was found at Grandpas house the last time we were there. It had been there the whole time we have been searching and no one knew. There is some additional research that we are going to do is there is a point where the research I have had done differs from what is in the tree. Sometimes the old records are hard to follow, so it’s always good to take another quick look and see what we find.
If this tree is correct, the most recent common ancestor that we have with Peter Paul and Wilhelm is a Gabriel Mauser who was born in 1620. From there our branc goes through a Hans born in 1644 and the other line is through a Franz born in 1665. There are a few things in the tree that I don’t quite understand, but now that we have a copy that helps the research a bit.
There is also something that looks like a family crest that is dated 1303, and I’m not sure at this point how to interpret that piece right now either.
I’m going to include a link to the tree here as well as a screen print. Please know that it is a BIG download if you choose to do that.
Enjoy!
