New Book on 596th Airborne Engineers

The new book is here! I was contacted a while back by someone writing a book on the World War II 596th Airborne Engineers. My Grandpa Anderson was a part of this unit and in working with the author I shared a couple of photos and stories with him. Grandpa is actually featured a couple of times in the book. How exciting is that! I haven’t read the whole book yet, but I have looked through the photos and there are at least two photos included, with one that mentions Grandpa’s Bronze Star medal.

For anyone interested in learning about paratrooper in WWII there are two good books here: https://1stabtf.com/en/home/

The 517’s Gang is the first book and is about the larger company, while Aly Daly and his 140 Thieves is specific to the 596th Airborne Engineer Company.

It’s so exciting that someone took the time to put all of these details together in one place. A huge thank you to the author for doing all the research and being passionate about the project!
