I don’t know if anyone who follows this blog watches “Finding Your Roots” the PBS show with Henry Louis Gates, but I love watching how they use DNA evidence to help find branches of a family tree sometimes with what seemed to be impossible odds.
I may have used some DNA evidence here recently to find the ancestors of a family that has been a brick wall for many researchers for years. I found a cluster of people who match mom and one of my uncles as well as some other known descendants of Luther Hagerdon and Fanny Petty – we have thought for years that she was Fanny Perry, but I think we are actually looking for Fanny Petty and the initial evidence looks good. Here’s hoping I’ll be able to use some paper trail documents and some other researchers to either confirm or reject this option.
This is exciting! It may take a little while to gather all the evidence but stay tuned. If this is correct it’s a huge find.
