Additional Civil War Soldiers

I decided to also get from the National Archives the pensions for two brothers of my direct line ancestors and have received both of them.

One was for Andrew Clutter, brother of my 4X Great Grandfather George Clutter, who eventually ties into Blanche Pocock. Andrew was killed near Atlanta in the Civil War and I was hoping his widow’s pension might give some additional family information that would be helpful. In this case I didn’t find much, but I always feel so sorry for the family. The Clutter family had three sons fight in the Civil War. Two didn’t come home (Andrew and Albian) and George was injured and taken prisoner at one point. Jonathan Clutter, their father, outlived four of his five sons with the exception of George.

The other information I requested was for Alexander Phillips, the brother of my 2X Great Grandmother Aseneth Phillips Bayne. Alex’s pension had minimal family information, which was OK as I wasn’t really searching for that information. I was more interested in his service records. It looks like Alex didn’t have any war injuries and survived several years without any health issues due to the war. The most interesting thing about his pension was the back and forth with the government about his actual birth year and if they should pay his age related pension increases.

I think these are the tail end of my Civil War records unless I find something else for a sibling here or there that looks interesting. Between Cory’s family and mine we have quite a bit of variety in soldiers, where they were and their outcomes.
