Robert Robinson – Civil War Veteran – Update

Robert Robinson is Cory’s 3X Great Grandfather and a Civil War Veteran. Cory’s line to Robert is through his Grandfather Lavern Storer. Lavern’s parents are Walter Storer and Susie Williams. Walter’s parents are Robert Storer and Sarah Robinson, Sarah’s parents are Robert Robinson and Sarah Ann Bell.

Robert was born in Indiana in 1829.

On August 11, 1862 he enlisted in Company B of the 126th Illinois Infantry. He lists his age as 33 years old, 5’9″” and the records say he has dark complexion, dark hair and brown eyes. He enlisted from Edgington, Rock Island County, IL for an initial period of 3 years. His role is listed as wagoner.

This infantry unit was engaged in the Siege of Vicksburg. Other than that it looks like they had light skirmishing and were mostly a rear echelon role.

In July or August of 1864 Robert was taken sick near Pine Bluffs, AK.

He was discharged on September 4, 1864 at Pine Bluff Arkansas for the disability of chronic dysentery and a series of other issues where he was considered unfit for even the reserve corps.

Robert’s condition grew progressively worse over time and it is sad to read his list of ailments and the pain he must have been in. See the blog post with Robert’s bio for additional information.

Robert’s pension changed over time from $4 in 1883 to $12 in 1894.
