Family Members in Daughters of the American Revolution

I’ve finally done it. I have convinced both my mother and my mother-in-law to submit applications to join the Daughters of the American Revolution. It may be a sign I’ve either excited them about all of the genealogy research and history or I’ve just talked about it so much I’ve broken them down and they’re just trying to make me quit talking. I think it’s the former even if there is a chance of the latter.

Mom’s was so easy – basically all she needs to do is submit the application and a check. All of the proof has already been done. You can’t beat that. Especially knowing that some people try for years to prove one Patriot.

My mother-in-law also had a relatively straight forward patriot. We had to prove five generations starting with her, but the main line was pretty well documented, so it didn’t take too long. She also has a really unique situation where there is not only a Patriot in her family tree, but some Loyalists who moved to Canada during the Revolution.

It’s always so much fun to learn about where your family was during different periods of time and see things from different perspectives. There’s always something to learn and something to research.

If you are related to me and reading this, you can join DAR – I have a proven Patriot on almost every branch of the tree (except the Germans who didn’t come to the US until the 1880’s but some married into families that had been around a while)
