This was such an interesting piece to read that I obtained permission from the Dehning Family Association to share it with you here. Hans Jurgen was born in 1924 and grew up under the influence of Hitler’s politics.
Hans Jurgen fought in WWII for Germany and talks about how the German people were convinced to go along with the party line, and how little they really knew about what was happening. Hans Jurgen was a prisoner of war in Yugoslavia for 4 1/2 years.
He goes into some detail on his experiences in the war and three things that became guiding principals for him in his life after the war.
Cory and I found this absolutely fascinating reading and hope you will too.
Hans Jurgen Dehning is my 6th Cousin three times removed, so we are quite distant cousins and our family lines branch off well before the Dehning family (my Great Grandmother Meta Dehning Kallsen is the connection to the Dehning family) came to the United States.
