Jacob Phillips and Surlina Hurd Photo and Story Gallery

Jacob Phillips and Surlina Hurd are the parents of my 2X Great Grandmother Aseneth Phillips Bayne and the grandparents of my Great Grandmother Marjorie Bayne Munter. Both of these families have a long history in the United States the Hurd line ties into two Mayflower lines (Billington and Eaton) and the Phillips line if the work of Robert H Phillips in his book “A History of Rev George Phillips and his American Descendants” is correct ties into Rev George Phillips who came to the United States on the Arabella and was part of the Watertown, MA community arriving in 1630.

This family made quite a trek from New York to Iowa Territory in the late 1840’s and early 1850’s. One of my favorite notes in their story is that Surlina’s death certificate is the only one I have that simply states the cause of death as “old age”

There are questions in my writeup for both the parents of Jacob and for Surlina, so there is still research to be done on these families.
