Next Genealogy Posts – 6th Generation

It’s time for me to start posting what I know from the 6th generation of my family tree. I count myself as Generation 1 and that makes Generation 6 the 3X Great Grandparents for myself and Cory.

That means that there are now 16 couples on my side of the tree and 16 couples on Cory’s side of the tree. That is a lot of notes, stories and documentation and may take a while to complete even though I do have most of the information. Putting it together is sometimes the hardest part as I try to verify the parents, children and siblings to some degree as I go. As we go back, records are more sparse which adds a new challenge. This is also about the point where no one in the family knew the people, which leaves no one to ask for any specific details. Up to this point there have been good family stories to start with or fill in details.

For many branches of the family they are at this point outside of the United States. Some branches I have names and dates, which are great, and not much for stories. Other branches I really have almost no information at this point, so will have to circle back and pick up the missing data when I am able to find it. I have great German research help, and that makes a big difference as long as I know place of origin. For some branches, I don’t yet know place of origin, so that makes things even trickier. In addition to German research I have some Swedish research that has been completed, and will have to look into Swiss records and even Welsh records. Not knowing the language and the use of patronymics in Sweden and Wales make some of that research harder.

I’m sure I will get sidetracked a bit here and there and post a few fun things I find, and depending on when my Daughters of the American Revolution applications finish their processing I may intersperse some details on the proven patriots. I have one currently approved, I think 8 pending approval, 4 that are working on submission, and then a host of others that are waiting for me to prove a detail or two before I can submit.

Always lots of research going on and fun things learned!
