This post is the final one for my maternal 2X Great Grandparents family. James Buchanon Bayne and Aseneth Mae Phillips are the parents of my Great Grandfather Marjorie Bayne Munter. As always, if there is something incorrect, unclear or missing in what I have, I welcome corrections and additions. These documents are always a work in progress as new data sources are found or come online.
James Bayne was born in Vevay, Switzerland County, Indiana. He then moved to Woodbury County, Iowa and then Cedar County, Nebraska. Aseneth Phillips was born in Jackson County, Iowa and then lived in Woodbury County and Cedar County.
We have a fair bit of information on this family thanks to their daughter Marjorie’s writings. We know that Marjorie was also interested in politics and you can see where some of that come from as James was involved in the Cedar County government for several years.
I also included some news clippings where James Bayne was a juror in the Maggie Davis Trial where she was accused of murdering Ira Churchill. She was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison. A year later she was acquitted on grounds of insanity.
I am possession of a book on the Phillips family that traces them back to the first arrival in America in 1630. There is some source documentation missing, and I hope to fill in some of the gaps. The Phillips line has connections to Revolutionary War Patriots and Mayflower Passengers.
